Decentralization is the most misunderstood concept in the history of cryptocurrency. Total centralization is easy for everyone to grasp because humanity has lived through eras of totalitarian monarchies and absolutist dictatorships, yet it has never truly experienced an era of decentralized power.
Decentralization does not mean that every person has a vote or a node to verify transactions; a person's will can easily be swayed by mass propaganda and disinformation. The ancient Greeks already recognized this, identifying demagoguery as a fundamental threat to democracy: leaders who rise to power legitimately but, once there, become corrupt, change the rules in their favor, and use indoctrination to maintain control.
Therefore, decentralization is not about having a vote that can be manipulated or sold due to confirmation bias. What it truly means is that no single person or group has enough power to change the rules of a network or political system.
The American empire has been successful over recent centuries because, since its founding as a republic, its Constitution has remained substantially unchanged; only a limited number of amendments—largely focused on civil rights—have been added. If the rules of a constitution are set in stone, that state is positioned for long-term success. Similarly, the original Bitcoin protocol rules were established by its creator to remain immutable. This allows for internal competition among miners—who concentrate computing power for technical and economic efficiency—while ensuring they lack the power to modify the validation rules.",
