At other times it takes over twenty minutes one way. Round trip? Roughly forty-four minutes or more depending on where the planets happen to be.\r\nBitcoin doesn't negotiate with astronomy.\r\nIf your network latency is longer than your block interval, you're not running one tightly synchronized system. You're running separated systems that diverge, reconcile, diverge again, and spend half their lives arguing about whose history is current.\r\nThe people promoting this stuff always speak as if reality is a software bug waiting for a patch.\r\nIt isn't.\r\nYou don't beat the speed of light with optimism. You don't solve orbital mechanics with hashtags. You don't build an interplanetary monetary system by chanting \"decentralization\" at a telescope.\r\nThe funny part is that most of the people talking about Mars Bitcoin haven't built anything on Earth worth discussing.\r\nMars has become the technological equivalent of a teenager planning where he'll park his Ferrari before he learns to drive.\r\nThe whole conversation is a boondoggle wrapped in science-fiction marketing. But even if it weren't, the basic problem remains:\r\nEarth and Mars are too far apart to operate as a single Bitcoin network under the assumptions people keep making.\r\nPhysics gets a vote.\r\nAnd unlike the developers, physics doesn't care about your roadmap.",
