I have created an earthen sleeping pod, a small cosy place with thick earthen walls that emanate security and it was created using a festive process. It’s a debt-free bill-free sanctuary, that brings me a sense of power, freedom and wealth that I’m sure others would enjoy. And I have a strong feeling that those in this space have something to offer this conversation.
Here’s more thoughts that end with a question: How can I trade what I have gained from creating this structure for crypto knowledge and ownership? And can this community help figure out how or if cryoto technology can support the wider vision of making what I have more accessible?
In the wider definition. shelter is more than a physical structure. Love shelters us., as does freedom, instincts, and wealth. So shelter can be anything that allows life to rest, repair, and continue without being consumed by threat so that we may flourish.
Across cultures, traditional shelter refers to small, cosy, purpose-built spaces to support deep rest and sleep. In traditional life the hut provides the physical part of shelter; the village, tribe and nature provides the other part. For the hermit sage it is the simple hermitage, nature and the inner calling for solitude.
When shelter succeeds, the body lets go and natural rhythm and flow return.
Deep sleep is the foundation beneath everything - life itself, physical health, emotional stability, clarity of perception, creativity, and spiritual insight.
Traditional shelter is designed more specifically to cradle sleep. Small cosy spaces, minimal maintenance, no electromagnetic noise, and toxin-free materials create an environment where the body feels safe enough to fully rest.
When sleep is supported at this depth, it naturally opens access to subtler states of awareness — experiences described across cultures as the song of the stars, the heavenly sound, or the high-pitched inner tone that accompanies deep stillness.
These states arise naturally when conditions are right. Shelter shapes those conditions.
Traditional shelter creation is festive and participatory. With song, rhythm, movement, and shared attention, walls rise from natural materials harvested with timing, cooperation, and joy. Children, elders, and artists take part. Music and dance act as coordination technologies — regulating effort, co-regulating nervous systems, and turning labour into celebration. This approach aligns village huts and sage hermitages within the same lineage. A nest for many. A cocoon for one or two.
Both lead toward the same threshold: deep rest, restored perception, and access to subtler forms of wealth.
Communities exploring privacy, decentralisation, and cryptographic tools are already asking about freedom, sovereignty and independence and yet the modern houses we sleeo in, tether us to extractive legacy systems that drain us.
Traditional shelter offers a form of sovereignty that is physical, neurological, and intergenerational. It reduces dependency, supports deep rest, and restores agency at the most fundamental level — where and how we sleep.
An Open Question
How can we support the creation and continuity of traditional shelter without colonising it? How might transparency, privacy, and voluntary participation help protect living practices, support land stewards and elders, and allow communities who are aligned to find one another?",
