This unique incarnation appeared to defeat the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who had obtained a boon making him nearly invincible. He could not be killed by man or animal, during day or night, inside or outside, or by any weapon. Vishnu circumvented these conditions by appearing as Narasimha at twilight, on the threshold of the palace, and using his claws to defeat the demon. This avatar teaches that pride and cruelty will eventually be punished, regardless of how powerful evil may seem.",
