In a big company, a few things happen. \n\nFirst you tend to move into lead roles and get promoted up to guide wider activities. Code work gets moved to less senior engineers. Big companies send more code work to India and China and other places. \n\nThe top roles in new development get increasingly political. Existing products get focused on problem solving. Preferring the latter, I still debug code often and work on code problems. Anyway, it's been about 15 years since I was writing code. But I am starting to look at getting into it again",
